What is ClearLift Laser?

ClearLift is a non-ablative, acoustic (a mechanical, shattering action rather than heat) laser treatment designed to improve the appearance of mild skin ageing and photodamage, without the associated downtime of other lasers or some chemical peels.

ClearLift is best suited to people wanting a general improvement in skin quality without significant downtime. It is suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types and most conditions, except the most sensitive. This treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any active skin infection in the area to be treated. Certain medical conditions or medications may also make you more sensitive to laser treatment, so a full consultation will be required prior to treatment to check suitability.

Most people tolerate ClearLift well and there is no need for numbing creams. You may feel a gentle warmth or tingling sensation, but it should not be painful.

ClearLift In Action

ClearLift uses a fractional, Q-switched Nd:YAG 1064nm laser to deliver very short pulses of energy at set depths beneath the skin’s surface, like a shockwave. This stimulates your skin to produce new collagen, as well as treating other conditions including:

Fine lines
Uneven skin texture
Dull or uneven skin tone
Mild skin laxity
Melasma, sun damage and some other types of pigmentation*

*ClearLift uses an Nd:YAG 1064nm wavelength which can be used to target excess pigment in the skin. It may therefore help to improve some cases of hyperpigmentation, including that relating to melasma, sun damage and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Please note that treating pigmentation can be complex and will likely require multiple treatments to see an improvement.

Which areas can be treated?

ClearLift is most commonly used on the face. We can treat the whole face and neck, or just selected smaller areas such as the periocular area (around the eyes) or even the lips for a stimulating, plumping effect.

We can also treat body areas such as:

Back of neck, inner thighs or buttocks (e.g. for treating pigmentation)

Hands (e.g. pigmentation, stimulating collagen)

How many treatments will I need?

For best results, we recommend a course of 6+ ClearLift treatments (depending on the condition) as opposed to a single treatment.

The exact number will depend on the concern being treated, your skin, and the level of improvement you hope to achieve. Collagen stimulation can take several weeks to months to see a cosmetic improvement.

Collagen degrades naturally, so once your desired results have been achieved, you will need to maintain with ‘top up’ sessions approximately once or twice a year. For pigmentation concerns, we recommend keeping sun exposure to a minimum and wearing SPF50 daily.

Please note that results vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed.

Downtime / aftercare advice

There is minimal downtime for a ClearLift treatment. The impact of the laser takes place deep under the skin and the surface is left intact, so you will be able to return to your usual activities immediately.

Temporary reactions can include:

Mild redness
Slight warmth or sensitivity
Minor swelling

Following treatment, we generally recommend that you:

Wear SPF50 daily and avoid deliberate sun exposure and tanning
Avoid strong exfoliating acids, scrubs and retinoids for approximately 3-5 days following treatment
Avoid picking, rubbing or irritating the treated area
Follow any further, personalised aftercare instructions provided by your therapist

Please contact the clinic if you develop an unexpected or prolonged skin reaction.

About ClearLift

Many patients see a result after two or three treatments but most patients will need a course of 6 to achieve optimum results. All this will be discussed at the time of your initial consultation.

The face, neck, chest and hands can be treated with ClearLift.

ClearLift causes tiny microinjuries to the Epidermis (the top layer of skin) and Dermis (the second layer of skin containing glands, follicles and collagen fibres amongst other things). These tiny micro injuries caused by the fractionated laser will cause the skin to repair itself. This action of repairing is what stimulates new collagen. Using a fractionated laser such as the ND-YAG 1064nm lessens the risk of scarring significantly. New collagen will improve the look of wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s feet, pore size and help to lift and tighten the skin.

It is a very gentle, but a very effective treatment. You will feel a slight snapping on the skin as the laser is applied and skin is treated but this is not painful. You may have a slight erythema (redness of the skin) if you are especially sensitive but this is not very common.

As Clearlift is a gentle treatment there is not much that you need to do after your treatment. You can cleanse your face as normal, avoid exfoliation for the first 24 hours to avoid overstimulating the area, stay out of direct sun and wear an SPF.

This treatment can be combined with other treatments on the Harmony XL Pro system for better results if necessary. Your Laser Therapist will be happy to talk you through the options available and tailor make a treatment plan for you.

Results generally last for 24 months. We recommend a top-up treatment once a year to maintain the benefit.
